about

"False Enemy (of Mary Tudor)" is presented from Mary Tudor’s perspective. Many scholars believe that Henry VIII named the Mary Rose after his youngest sister. The false enemy is what keeps Mary up at night as she grapples with her brother’s decision to betroth her at the age of eighteen to the middle-aged king of France. It also foreshadows the sinking of her namesake in 1545 (by the French) and the loss of nearly 400 sailors.

lyrics

I fall into the hands
Of my false enemy
No one hears
No one sees
She hides her face
The room is empty
She’ll stay again
‘Til daybreak
False Enemy
(I’ve fallen for you)
Your hands unfold
Our secret fear
